Yasemin Bayyurt is a Professor of Applied Linguistics at the Department of Foreign Language Education, Faculty of Education, Boğaziçi University. She previously served as Dean of the Faculty of Education (2020–2022) and Head of the Department (2006–2012). Her research focuses on English as a Lingua Franca (ELF), disciplinary literacies in EMI and CLIL classrooms, academic writing, technology in education, and neurolinguistics. She holds a Ph.D. in English Linguistics from Lancaster University (1997).
Her work bridges sociolinguistics and pedagogy, addressing multilingualism, intercultural communication, and EMI practices in higher education. She has authored/co-edited books such as *Current Perspectives on Pedagogy for ELF* (2015) and *English as a Lingua Franca in the Language Classroom* (2024). Her recent projects include leading the ENRICH Erasmus+ project (2018–2021) on ELF-aware teaching and the CLIL Network for Bi/Multilingual Disciplinary Literacies (COST Action 2022–present).
Bayyurt has received numerous awards, including the Boğaziçi University Academic Support Award (2009–2014) and TÜBİTAK Career Project Support (2005–2009). She has advised over 30 PhD and MA theses, focusing on topics like EMI challenges, ELF pedagogy, and teacher identity. Her grants include leadership roles in EU-funded projects like M-LARG (2009–2012) and Digitools (2021–2023).
She is a member of international associations including AAAL, AILA, and IAWE, and has held editorial roles for journals like *Journal of English as a Lingua Franca*. Her work promotes inclusive language education policies and global English practices.
