Dr Yared Belay is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Health Economics Group within the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Monash University. His work focuses on economic evaluations in healthcare, particularly examining quality of life measurements and cost-effectiveness analyses in mental health and genomic applications.

Dr Belay's research centers on model-based and trial-based economic evaluations with particular emphasis on health outcomes research and quality of life measurement. His current work includes economic evaluation of population genomic screening within the Public Health Genomics program with Professor Paul Lacaze, and cost-effectiveness analyses of mental health interventions in resource-constrained settings. His expertise spans health economics, economic modeling, quality of life assessment, mental health economics, and genomic health applications.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on mental health economics in low-resource settings, with particular attention to depression treatment cost-effectiveness, quality of life measurement instruments, and innovative approaches to healthcare delivery through task-shifting strategies. His work frequently addresses challenges specific to low- and middle-income countries.
Dr Belay collaborates extensively within Monash University and with international researchers, contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and wellbeing through his economic evaluation research.
As a Chief Investigator on the project 'Psychometric performance of utility measures in older adults' (2024-2025), he continues to advance methodologies for health economic evaluation while mentoring junior researchers and contributing to health policy development through evidence-based economic analysis.
