Professor Yaochu Jin is a Distinguished Chair and Professor in Computational Intelligence at the University of Surrey, leading the Nature Inspired Computing and Engineering (NICE) Group. He holds roles as Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Cognitive and Developmental Systems and Complex & Intelligent Systems. With a background spanning Zhejiang University (BSc, MSc, PhD) and Ruhr-University Bochum (Dr.-Ing.), Jin has extensive experience in academia and industry, including roles at Honda Research Institute Europe and visiting professorships at institutions in China and Finland.
His research focuses on nature-inspired machine intelligence, evolutionary optimization, and interdisciplinary applications in computational biology and robotics. Key interests include multi-objective optimization, surrogate-assisted methods, and secure machine learning.
Jin has secured significant grants from EU FP7, UK EPSRC, and industry partners like Honda and Bosch. His work has been recognized with awards such as the IEEE Fellow distinction and multiple best paper awards. He actively contributes to professional societies, including IEEE and editorial boards of top journals.
