Yanwen Wu is a Lecturer in Chinese at Columbia University's Department of East Asian Languages & Cultures. Her research focuses on Chinese Poetic Tonal Prosody, Second Language Acquisition, and Phonology. Her dissertation, "Tonal Prosody in Recent-style Verse of the Early Tang: From a Statistical Perspective", explores the evolution of Middle Chinese poetic metric patterns through statistical analysis. She has also contributed to studies in Chinese dialectology and language pedagogy.
Among her accolades, Yanwen Wu received the Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship from the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange, which supported her research and conference presentations.
Before joining Columbia, she taught Chinese language courses at all levels at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and coordinated Chinese language and culture programs there, demonstrating extensive pedagogical and administrative experience.
