Yanru Lu is a researcher at the Institute of German Language and Linguistics at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Her research focuses on morphology, syntax, and the syntax-semantics interface, with expertise in experimental psycholinguistics. She investigates register variation and social meanings in German and Chinese, particularly regarding topic drop phenomena.
Her work integrates formal linguistic frameworks like Head-driven Phrase Structure Grammar (HPSG) with experimental validation through matched-guise studies. Key projects include A04 (“Building register into the architecture of language”) and involvement in the Integrated Graduate School (MGK).
Recent contributions include analyzing topic drop in German, linking syntactic structures to social meanings and register categories. Collaborations with Giuseppe Varaschin and Antonio Machicao y Priemer highlight interdisciplinary approaches to linguistic variation.
