Yann Lebeau is a Professor of Higher Education Research and Head of the School of Education and Lifelong Learning at the University of East Anglia. Before joining UEA in 2007, he held roles in France, Nigeria, and the UK's Open University. His research focuses on global higher education governance, policy transfers, academic mobility, and UNESCO’s inclusion agenda. He supervises PhD and EdD students and leads projects such as the UNESCO-funded initiative on refugees' access to education and a collaboration with Patricio Langa (University of Western Cape) on African research capacity building.
Lebeau has held leadership roles including Director of Research (2018–20), Deputy Head of School (2010–13), and Associate Dean (2013–18). He contributes to editorial boards of Policy Reviews in Higher Education and the British Journal of Sociology of Education. His work addresses the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly equitable education access and social inclusion.
Recent collaborations include studies on Saudi Arabian university governance, Mexican academic mobility, and the impact of policy transfers in Sub-Saharan Africa. He also participates in initiatives like the British Academy-funded Gender Challenges in Knowledge Production in West Africa (2024–25), supporting women researchers.
Key grants include ESRC-NRF projects on South African higher education and UNRISD-funded studies on universities and social inequalities. His research bridges policy analysis, qualitative methods, and global education equity.
