He has held leadership roles, including Head of the Department of Experimental Surgery at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois (CHUV) and former Head of the Epithelial Cell Differentiation Laboratory at École Normale Supérieure (Paris, France). His research focuses on stem cell biology, skin regeneration, and epithelial tissue engineering.
- Education: MD (1981, with honors), PhD in Cytology-Histology (1982), and specialized training in dermatology and molecular cloning.
Research Interests: Stem cells in epithelial tissues, hair follicle and corneal regeneration, cell and gene therapy, and transplantation biology. He pioneered the identification of epidermal stem cells in burn wound healing and characterized skin diseases through genetic studies.
