Dr Yanmeng Xu is a Senior Lecturer in Mechanics for Design at Brunel Design School, Brunel University London. He holds a PhD in Engineering Materials from the University of Southampton (2004) and has extensive academic and industrial experience in tribology, manufacturing engineering, and materials science.

Dr Xu specializes in precision machining, failure analysis, and materials application for oil and gas engineering. His academic work bridges mechanical engineering and product design, with a recent focus on inkjet printing technology for materials and devices.
His publications span materials science, forensic engineering, and ceramic manufacturing. Key research areas include cold spray deposition, DNA-trapping surface textures, and thermoplastic coating wear resistance. He supervises MSc and PhD students while teaching Engineering Mechanics and Mechanics of Materials.
Dr Xu has secured grants from EPSRC and industrial partners like BP and Shell. He also provides technical consultancy in materials properties and product design.
