Yanlong Guo is an Associate Professor in the Department of Art at Smith College. His research intersects art history with archaeology and material culture studies, focusing on early imperial China (3rd century BCE–3rd century CE) and its material exchanges.
Guo received his Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia and holds M.A. and B.A. degrees from Sun Yat-sen University. His work explores the agency of objects in shaping imperial identity and society, particularly through bronze mirrors and their cultural significance.
His publications span topics including Han Dynasty mirror inscriptions, iconography of mythological triads, and colonial visuality in East Asian modernism. His research has been supported by prestigious institutions such as the Luce Foundation and Columbia University’s Tang Center for Early China.
