Professor Yang's research centers on Chinese animation history, film criticism, and screenplay writing with particular focus on the 'Chinese School' of animation. His work bridges theoretical analysis with creative practice, examining both historical development and contemporary trends in Chinese cinema. He has pioneered research on comparative film studies between China, Japan, and America, with special attention to animation aesthetics and narrative structures. His scholarship consistently addresses how Chinese cultural identity manifests in visual storytelling across different media platforms.
His recent publications reveal a clear trajectory toward reconstructing Chinese animation theory within global contexts while analyzing contemporary film trends. The 15 most recent works demonstrate expertise in animation narrative theory, historical representation in film, and cultural adaptation strategies - particularly examining how traditional Chinese stories are transformed in modern animation. His analysis spans both commercial successes and artistic experiments, with growing attention to psychological dimensions in contemporary Chinese cinema.
