معرفی
Yang Chen is a Lecturer at the School of Computing, Engineering and Physical Sciences. He earned his PhD from Heriot-Watt University, focusing on hollow-core and twisted optical fibres. Postdoctoral research included work at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light (2017) and the Paul Scherrer Institute (2021). His research interests span photonic crystal fibres, vortex optics, and computational polarisation imaging. He currently teaches courses in Maths for Physics, College Physics, Applied Optics, and Optical System Design. He serves as Guest Editor for Photonics (2022–2023) and on the Reviewer Board for Crystals (2021–present).
His research activity includes developing tomographic Müller-polarimetric microscopy for three-dimensional optical anisotropy imaging and studying chiral photonic crystal fibres. Key contributions include work on optical vortex Brillouin lasers, light localization in helical waveguide arrays, and modulation instability in nonlinear systems. His publications reflect a focus on fibre optics, nonlinear optics, and advanced imaging techniques.
No scientific awards are listed. He is currently accepting PhD students in areas like three-dimensional polarisation microscopy and chiral photonic crystal fibres. Collaborations span institutions globally, with recent work emphasizing structural bioimaging and material characterization through advanced optical techniques.
