Dr. Yana Weinstein serves as a Senior Instructor in the School of Music at Indiana State University's College of Arts & Sciences, teaching studio voice, vocal pedagogy, lyric diction, conducting the ISU Women's Choir, and directing the lyric theater workshop.
Her academic credentials include:
- D.M. in Vocal Performance from Indiana University (2022), dissertation: Selected Songs of Nikolai Medtner
- M.M. in Vocal Performance from Ohio State University (2002)
- B.M. in Vocal Performance (magna cum laude) from Northern Kentucky University (1999)
Her research explores the synthesis of music and poetic text with specialized focus on Russian art song, particularly Nikolai Medtner's compositions, alongside vocal pedagogy for pre-teens and interdisciplinary connections between vocal technique and music theory. As a performer, she has interpreted roles in operas including Le Nozze di Figaro (Cherubino) and Gianni Schicchi (Gherardino), and championed Russian repertoire through dedicated recitals.
Dr. Weinstein actively contributes to institutional governance as current member of the University Art and Research Committee (August 2025–Present) and former member of the University Curriculum and Academic Affairs Committee (December 2024–May 2025), while leading student ensembles through the Women's Choir and lyric theater workshop.
