Dr. Yana Bromberg is a Professor of Bioinformatics at Emory University, affiliated with both the Department of Biology and the Department of Computer Science. She leads the BrombergLab, focusing on computational approaches to understand protein function and variant effects.
- Education: Ph.D. in Biomedical Informatics (Columbia, 2007), M.Phil in Biomedical Informatics (Columbia, 2004), B.A./B.Eng. in Biology/Computer Science (SUNY Stony Brook, 2001)
Her research spans protein function prediction, variant effect analysis, and microbiome studies, employing artificial intelligence and machine learning methodologies. Recent work includes novel tools like synVep for synonymous variant prediction and functional analysis of SARS-CoV-2 proteome evolution.
Scientific honors include:
- NSF CAREER award
- Fellow of the Munich Institute for Advanced Study
She actively mentors students and postdoctoral associates, including Zishuo Zeng, Chengsheng Zhu, and Maximilian Miller, while contributing to large-scale projects like PredictProtein and functional microbiome analysis.
