Yan Xu is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs, Brown University. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Chicago. His research focuses on comparative and international political economy, with emphases on China's tech startup ecosystems, state-business dynamics, and global supply chains. His book project explores how China leveraged Silicon Valley-style venture capital and entrepreneurship to advance high-tech industries.

Research Interests: Technology policy, state-guided innovation, industrial policy in China, global semiconductor politics, and the political economy of wealth concentration. His work integrates fieldwork in China’s tech hubs (Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Suzhou) and analysis of state-private sector interactions.
