Yan Long is an Assistant Professor in the IoT Thrust at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou). He holds a PhD from the University of Michigan (EECS) and completed his undergraduate studies at Zhejiang University. His research focuses on cyber-physical system (CPS) security, embedded systems, and sensing-based computation privacy. He is affiliated with the Security and Privacy Research Group (SPQR) led by Prof. Kevin Fu.
Education: PhD in EECS (University of Michigan), BEng (Zhejiang University). Current roles include postdoc researcher at Northeastern University (2024) and future faculty position at HKUST-GZ (2025).
Research interests span hardware-software interface security, sensor privacy, and side-channel attacks. Notable contributions include EM Eye (electromagnetic camera eavesdropping), Private Eye (eyeglass reflection attacks), and ARMOUR (Android sensor monitoring). Editor of the Sensors in Hardware Security Special Issue (Sensors Journal).
Awards include Distinguished Paper at IEEE S&P 2024 and CSAW 2024 finalist. Serves on program committees of CCS, MobiSys, and NEHWS. Active in open-source projects like VeriMask for N95 mask verification.
