Yakun Guo is a Professor at the University of Bradford, specializing in environmental hydraulics, marine renewable energy, and coastal hydrodynamics. Previously, he held roles as a Postdoctoral Associate at Dundee University and a Reader at Aberdeen University. He earned his BEng (First Class Honours) in Hydrology and Water Resources and PhD in Hydraulics from Sichuan University, China.
His research focuses on numerical simulation of turbulent flows, flow-structure interaction, and sediment transport. Key interests include offshore wind energy, tidal stream energy, and computational fluid dynamics. He has secured funding from EPSRC, KTP, ETP, and NSFC, with over 300 peer-reviewed publications. Notable work includes the 2006 ASCE Best Technical Note Award and membership in the UK EPSRC Peer Review College since 2006.
Research highlights include modeling hydrodynamic pressure fields, fluid-structure interaction in turbines, and scour protection for submarine pipelines. Current studies explore wave-structure interactions, tidal energy extraction, and sediment dynamics in coastal systems. Collaborations span international institutions, addressing challenges in marine renewable energy and environmental fluid mechanics.
- Grants: EPSRC, KTP, ETP, NSFC
