Yael Aronoff is a Professor of Political Science/International Relations at James Madison College, Michigan State University (MSU). She serves as Director of the Michael and Elaine Serling Institute for Jewish Studies and Modern Israel and holds the Serling Chair in Israel Studies. She has received notable awards, including the MSU 2011 Teacher-Scholar Award and the 2015 John K. Hudzik Emerging Leader Award. Dr. Aronoff is President of the Association of Israel Studies and has served on its Board of Directors for a decade.
- Ph.D. in Political Science and International Affairs, Columbia University
Her research focuses on Israeli politics, foreign policy, peace negotiations, and the dynamics of asymmetric conflicts, with a particular emphasis on the psychological and cultural dimensions of leadership decisions. She explores how democracies balance military doctrines with ethical constraints during prolonged conflicts, as seen in her current book project.
Dr. Aronoff has published extensively in journals such as Foreign Policy, Israel Studies Review, and Political Science Quarterly. Her notable works include a comparative analysis of Israeli prime ministers' decision-making on peace and a co-edited volume on political culture. She has also contributed to edited collections on Israel's political discourse and opposition movements.
