His work examines how language, cultural context, and normative frameworks influence health behaviors and communication dynamics. Key areas include prosocial vaccination appeals, the impact of inclusive pronouns in health messaging, and the stigmatization of Chinese international students during the pandemic. He also investigates cross-cultural health communication challenges, such as communicating about cesarean sections in China and the role of American narratives in addressing environmental issues in China.
Ji's recent publications analyze vaccination selfies' media effects, the linguistic framing of rape adjudication, and the design of effective PrEP promotion materials. His research bridges theoretical insights from social psychology with practical implications for public health campaigns, emphasizing culturally responsive messaging strategies.
He advises students in Communication Studies and collaborates on grants exploring health communication interventions. His academic contributions reflect a commitment to understanding how communication shapes health outcomes and cultural perceptions across diverse populations.
