Yachao Li is an Associate Professor of Communication Studies and Public Health at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ), where he serves as Chair of the Department of Communication, Journalism, and Film and holds a joint appointment in the Department of Public Health. His research examines communication dynamics in LGBTQ+ communities, health disparities among marginalized populations, and the role of digital media in interpersonal relationships and public health outcomes.

Dr. Li’s research investigates how communication strategies reduce health disparities, focusing on sexual orientation disclosure, stigma management, and the impact of digital platforms on health behaviors. His interdisciplinary work bridges communication theory, public health practice, and social justice advocacy.
His 15 most recent publications explore topics including climate change mitigation communication, LGBTQ+ relationship education via animation, Mpox prevention norms, social comparison in OnlyFans use, cannabis warning efficacy, and digital media’s role in health decision-making during crises. These works often analyze marginalized communities’ experiences, integrating theories like the Health Belief Model and social comparison frameworks.

As Editor-in-Chief of Atlantic Journal of Communication and associate editor for other journals, Dr. Li leads scholarly discourse.
