YAO Shao Qin is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the National University of Singapore (NUS), affiliated with the Faculty of Science. His research focuses on chemical biology and medicinal chemistry, particularly in developing strategies for organism-wide enzyme studies (catalomics) and targeted protein degradation. He holds a B.Sc. from Ohio State University, a PhD from Purdue University, and postdoctoral training at UC Berkeley and Scripps Research Institute.
Key achievements include the Dean’s Chair Professorship (2009-2012) and awards like the ASAIHL-Scopus Young Scientist Award (2008). His lab pioneered the use of self-assembled nano-molecular glues (nano-mGlu) for cancer therapy, enabling tumor-specific protein degradation via GSH/H₂O₂ triggers.
Research highlights include studies on kinase inhibition via covalent cross-linking, global profiling of catalytic lysine reactivity in kinases, and antibody-based therapeutics for 'undruggable' targets. His work bridges chemical biology with clinical applications, emphasizing precision medicine and targeted drug delivery.
