Xueqiao Li is a Research Fellow at the Department of Psychology within the Faculty of Education and Psychology at the University of Jyväskylä. Their research focuses on understanding how depressive symptoms and mood states affect information processing, particularly in emotional contexts. Current work involves the Academy of Finland-funded project 'Social foreign language learning: behavioral and electrophysiological studies', examining social interaction-based methods for foreign language acquisition in adults.
Research interests include foreign language learning mechanisms, social interaction dynamics, the neurophysiological underpinnings of depression, and the interplay between mood states and emotional perception. Li employs advanced psychophysiological techniques such as ERP, MEG, and neuroimaging to study cognitive processes in clinical and healthy populations.
Publications highlight investigations into working memory differences between athletes/non-athletes, auditory evoked potentials in depression, and neural mechanisms of emotion processing in bilingual contexts. Recent studies focus on sensory gating impairments in aging populations and how pain influences emotional face perception.
Active collaborations include the Active Mind Lab, which explores speech and facial expression communication. Current projects aim to translate neuroscientific insights into practical learning strategies through embodied and socially interactive methods.
