Xuefei Ma is an Assistant Professor of Chinese Culture at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville's Department of World Languages and Cultures. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Arizona. Her research focuses on feminist, queer, and trans cultural production within global Chinese/Sinophone communities, with particular attention to intersections of gender, animal studies, and the Anthropocene. Current projects include examining transnational feminist coalitions through nüshu homosociality and analyzing human-animal transformations in Yangtze River narratives.
Key research interests include queer cinema analysis, feminist activism in digital media, and the de-centering of the human in environmental discourse. Her work bridges literary studies, visual culture, and affect theory.
