Xu Cao is an Assistant Professor of Engineering at Dartmouth College, specializing in advanced radiotherapy techniques and biomedical imaging. His research focuses on ultra-high dose rate radiotherapy (UHDR), flash radiotherapy, and imaging modalities such as oxygen imaging, fluorescence imaging, and molecular imaging. Cao holds a BS from Northwestern Polytechnical University (2007), an MS from China Agricultural University (2009), and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Tsinghua University (2013).
His research projects include exploring oxygen dynamics during UHDR irradiation, Cerenkov imaging applications in radiation therapy, and optical molecular imaging for tumor analysis. Key contributions include studies on hydrated electron yield in UHDR settings and near-infrared spectral tomography for cancer monitoring. Cao collaborates on multidisciplinary projects involving radiation physics, oncology, and materials science, with a focus on translational biomedical technologies.
