Brian W. Pogue

Brian W. Pogue is the Robert A. Pritzker Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Dartmouth's Thayer School of Engineering. He holds academic leadership roles including Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Biomedical Optics and has served as Dean of Graduate Studies at Dartmouth (2008–2012). His research focuses on biomedical optics, medical physics, and radiation therapy imaging, with notable work in fluorescence-guided surgery and Cerenkov imaging.

Education: BSc (Physics, York University, 1989), MSc (Physics, York University, 1991), PhD (Medical Physics, McMaster University, 1996), and a Research Fellowship at Harvard Medical School.

Research Interests: Pogue's work bridges optics and medicine, addressing challenges in cancer detection and treatment. Key areas include radiation therapy quality assurance, photodynamic therapy, and imaging technologies for surgical guidance. His lab develops tools like the Cerenkov effect for real-time radiation dose monitoring and optical molecular imaging.
