Professor Xixi Lu is a physical geographer at the National University of Singapore specializing in fluvial geomorphology. His research examines sediment and carbon fluxes in large Asian river systems including the Yellow, Yangtze, and Mekong rivers.
Professor Lu's work investigates how dams, land use changes, and climate change impact sediment transport and carbon cycling. He employs high-throughput DNA methylation analysis and integrative modeling approaches to study epigenetic alterations in river systems. Current projects focus on headwater sediment dynamics, carbon outgassing from major rivers, eutrophication effects on greenhouse gas emissions, and Mekong River transformations.
He has edited multiple special volumes on Asian rivers in Quaternary International and serves on editorial boards of several hydrology and geomorphology journals.
