Noah P. Snyder

Noah P. Snyder is Professor and Chair of the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Boston College. He holds a B.A. from Bates College and a Ph.D. from MIT. His research investigates river system responses to environmental changes, linking lidar topography with field measurements to study fluvial processes in managed landscapes.

Research interests center on sediment transport dynamics, dam removal impacts, and Anthropocene sedimentation patterns. Current projects examine postglacial lake sediment records and human-altered river systems in New England.

Recent publications analyze legacy sediment storage, watershed management, and ecological restoration following dam removals. His work demonstrates how land-use history and climate interact to shape erosion patterns.

Dr. Snyder advises multiple graduate students researching tidal sediment dynamics, nitrogen isotopes in lake sediments, and large wood restoration in river ecosystems. He has led NSF-funded projects bridging geomorphology and environmental policy.
