Xitong Li is a Full Professor of Information Systems at HEC Paris, France, specializing in the economics of information and AI technologies. His research examines social media dynamics, digital marketing, crowdfunding mechanisms, online education systems, and human-AI collaboration through applied econometrics and experimental methods. Published in top journals including Management Science and MIS Quarterly, his work bridges theoretical rigor with real-world business applications.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Management, MIT Sloan School of Management (2014)
- Ph.D. in Engineering, Tsinghua University (2010)
- Bachelor of Science in Control Science and Engineering, Tsinghua University (2004)
Dr. Li's research program investigates how digital technologies reshape economic behavior and market dynamics. Key contributions include analyzing AI's impact on investment decisions, quantifying spillover effects in health information systems, and measuring social influence in medical crowdfunding. His methodological approach combines large-scale field experiments with advanced econometric techniques to isolate causal effects in complex digital ecosystems.
Recent publications reveal consistent focus on AI-human collaboration, recommender system economics, and digital platform governance. His 2025 work on mobile data pricing demonstrates how connectivity costs alter consumer price sensitivity, while his HICSS-awarded research examines social influence mechanisms in online communities. Collectively, these studies form a cohesive body examining the behavioral economics of emerging technologies.
Awards:
- INFORMS ISS Sandy Slaughter Early Career Award (2022)
- HEC Foundation Researcher of the Year (2023)
- HICSS Best Paper Award (2013)
- OCIS AoM Best Paper Finalist (2017)
Dr. Li secured competitive funding including an ANR AAPG France grant (2018-2023, €124k as solo PI) and Hi! PARIS Fellowship (2021-2025, €180k). He actively recruits visiting researchers for long-term collaborations and serves as Associate Editor for Information Systems Research. His grant portfolio demonstrates consistent success in securing European research funding for digital economy studies.
He founded the HEC Executive Forum on AI and Digital Economy to bridge academic research with industry practice. As Program Co-chair for ICIS 2021 and SCECR 2019 co-chair, he shapes discourse in information systems research while maintaining active roles in editorial review for 15+ top journals including Management Science and IEEE Transactions.
