Professor Xiongwei Ni is a Full Professor in Chemical Engineering at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. He holds joint affiliations with the School of Engineering & Physical Sciences, Institute of Chemical Sciences, and Institute of Mechanical, Process & Energy Engineering. His research focuses on multiphase mixing, novel reactor design (particularly oscillatory baffled reactors), and their applications in industries such as crystallization, wastewater treatment, and sustainable chemical processes.
Since 1999, Prof. Ni has led the Centre for Oscillatory Baffled Reactor Application (COBRA), pioneering advancements in reactor fluid dynamics, particle behavior, and process intensification. He has authored over 180 publications and 8 patents, and serves as a Fellow of IChemE and RSC. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals through innovations in carbon-neutral processes and resource efficiency.
- Key Honors: Fellowships in IChemE and RSC
- Editorial Roles: Editorial board member for Technologies, Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, and others
- Industry Impact: Founded NiTech Solutions Ltd (2005) for continuous flow technology applications
Recent research emphasizes cooling crystallization optimization, photo-oxidation reactions, and biological methanation of CO₂, reflecting a blend of fundamental science and industrial relevance.
