Xiong Zhang is a Sessional Lecturer in Chinese Language and Literature at the Department of Asian Studies, Faculty of Arts, University of British Columbia. He holds a BA in Journalism from Renmin University of China and an MA in Asian Studies with a focus on Chinese Studies from UBC.

His academic interests include Chinese literature, Chinese popular culture, and non-fiction writing. He has also contributed to journalism through over 100 articles in leading Chinese news magazines such as Southern People Weekly, Southern Metropolis Weekly, and New Century Weekly.
He has received several accolades, including the Journalist of the Year award (2010) and the Best Non-fiction Award (2014). Additionally, he authored the book The Creation of A Writer’s Odyssey, published by Shanghai Literature & Art Publishing House in February 2021.
