Tsung-Cheng Lin is an Associate Professor in Pacific and Asian Studies at the University of Victoria. He specializes in pre-modern Chinese literature, focusing on poetry from the medieval to late imperial periods. His work emphasizes narrative traditions, knight-errantry themes, and poetic transitions in Chinese literature. He holds a PhD from the University of British Columbia.
Education: PhD (UBC), MA (Indiana University), BA (Fu-Jen Catholic University). Teaching focuses on classical Chinese literature, medieval poetry, and research methodologies. He has organized conferences on Chinese literary studies and presented globally, including at Harvard, Kyoto Women’s University, and Nanjing University.
Research highlights include studies on knight-errantry in Tang poetry, Qing narrative traditions, and the modernization of classical poetry. He authored/co-edited volumes like From Tradition to Modernity: Poetic Transition from 18th to Early 20th Century China (2017). His articles span journals such as Journal of Chinese Literature and Chinese Poetics.
Teaching includes courses on Chinese civilization, classical prose, and narrative literature. He advises graduate students on research methodologies and has lectured widely in China on topics like narrative theory and Qing poetry evolution.
