Xinran Liu

Xinran Liu is a doctoral student and researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory in Frankfurt, Germany, since 2025. Their work focuses on historical normativity regimes, special regulations, and transnational legal history.

• Education: LL.B. from Zhejiang University (2016–2020), Legum Magister from Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (2022–2024).

Research interests include modern history of East Asia, global legal history since the 19th century, comparative constitutional and administrative law, and comparative judicial systems. Projects address themes like nation-state building from below in Asia/China and glocalizations of normativity in the early modern period.

Awards: Orientation Fellowship at the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory (2024).
