Xingang Chen is a Senior Lecturer in Astronomy at Harvard University and a member of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA). He holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University (2003) and has held postdoctoral positions at the University of Florida, Cornell University, and MIT. He was a Stephen Hawking Advanced Fellow at the University of Cambridge before joining Harvard. His academic journey includes a prior faculty role as Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Dallas.
Dr. Chen's research focuses on early universe models, primordial density perturbations, cosmic microwave background (CMB), large-scale structure, dark matter, and string cosmology. His work bridges theoretical physics and observational cosmology, aiming to uncover the origins and evolution of the universe through CMB anomalies, primordial features, and dark matter studies.
His recent publications emphasize probing inflationary models using future CMB missions like LiteBIRD and CMB-S4, exploring non-inflationary scenarios, and analyzing the implications of CMB residual anomalies. He also investigates hidden dark matter theories and the interplay between early universe physics and modern cosmological observations.
Chen’s contributions include advancing the 'cosmological collider' framework, studying primordial standard clocks, and addressing the Hubble tension through uncalibrated cosmic standards. He collaborates widely within the CfA and the broader astrophysics community, contributing to both theoretical advancements and observational strategies for upcoming cosmological surveys.
