Xing Fan is an Associate Professor at University College, University of Toronto, specializing in Chinese drama, theatre, and performance culture. Her research spans Asian performance aesthetics, historiography, intercultural collaborations, gender in performance, sound studies, and pedagogy.

Her work focuses on redefining Chinese theatre through pedagogical innovation, actor-centered performance analysis, and auditory aesthetics. Current projects include SSHRC-funded research on female transgression in Beijing opera (1880–1949) and experimental traditional theatre in contemporary China.
Recent publications include analyses of Gao Xingjian’s plays, jingju adaptations, and intercultural pedagogy. She has received the Connaught New Researcher Award, SSHRC Insight Development Grant (2020), and SSHRC Insight Grant (2019).
