Xinchen Wang is a Professor at the College of Chemistry, Fuzhou University, where he leads the International Joint Laboratory of Artificial Photosynthesis established in collaboration with the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces. His academic journey includes a BSc in Chemistry from Fuzhou University (1999), a PhD from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (2005), postdoctoral research at The University of Tokyo (2006-2007), and an Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship at the Max Planck Institute in Germany (2007-2009).
His research centers on developing advanced materials for sustainable energy conversion, with emphases on:
- Artificial photosynthesis and solar fuel generation
- Photocatalytic water splitting and CO₂ reduction
- Design of polymeric semiconductors and metal-organic frameworks
- Organocatalysis for green chemical transformations
Recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on covalent triazine frameworks, carbon nitride modifications, and interfacial engineering for enhancing photocatalytic efficiency in hydrogen evolution, CO₂ conversion, and pollutant degradation. Key trends include nanostructure optimization, electron transfer mechanisms, and metal-free catalytic systems.
Notable scientific recognitions:
- JSPS Research Fellowship (2006)
- Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship (2007)
- National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars (2014)
- Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (2015)
- Chang Jiang Scholars Program (2016)
He mentors graduate researchers in photocatalytic materials development and leads interdisciplinary teams investigating solar energy applications. His laboratory focuses on translating fundamental discoveries into scalable environmental solutions, including solar-driven water purification and chemical synthesis.
