Xin Yang is a Research Fellow at the Lee Kuan Yew Centre for Innovative Cities (LKYCIC) at Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). She supports Dr. Belinda Yuen and her team on projects related to Ageing Urbanism and Urban Innovation. Her research focuses on age-friendly urban design, the interplay between built environments and population health, and sustainable urban development. Previously, she held positions at the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART) Centre and the MIT JTL Urban Mobility Lab.

Research Interests: Xin’s work emphasizes creating cities for all ages, evaluating urban policies through the lens of social justice (e.g., Sen-Nussbaum’s Capability Approach), and analyzing travel behavior in response to urban policies. Her recent studies include the impact of pedestrianization on businesses and sustainable mobility strategies in Asian cities.
Key Academic Contributions: Xin has published extensively on urban policy evaluation, employment decentralization, and urban sustainability. Her modeling frameworks bridge theoretical social justice concepts with practical urban planning challenges.
Labs & Collaborations: Active in LKYCIC and MIT’s JTL Urban Mobility Lab, she collaborates internationally on projects addressing urban innovation and aging populations.
