Dr. Xin Fu Tan is an ARC Early Career Industry Fellow at The University of Queensland with a focus on electronics manufacturing, hydrogen storage materials, and advanced characterization techniques. Affiliated with the School of Mechanical and Mining Engineering and Centre for Advanced Materials Processing and Manufacturing (AMPAM), their work bridges academic research and industrial applications.
- PhD in Novel anode materials for lithium-ion batteries (UQ, 2020)
- Industry experience at Hydrexia Pty. Ltd. (2010-2016) commercializing hydrogen storage systems
- Education: BEng (Hons) (Melbourne), Masters (Chalmers University, Sweden)
Research Interests center on electronic interconnections and hydrogen storage materials, utilizing synchrotron radiation and electron microscopy for microstructure analysis. Recent work includes low-temperature solder alloys for energy-efficient electronics and Mg-based hydrides for solid-state hydrogen storage.
Recent Publications highlight innovations in Sn-Bi alloy systems for improved mechanical properties, In-Sn-Bi microstructure engineering for superplasticity, and Na-modified Mg alloys for hydrogen activation. Their projects often involve collaborations with Nihon Superior Co Ltd and institutions like Kyushu University.
Honors:
- ARC Early Career Industry Fellowship (2025-2027)
- JSPS International Research Fellowship (2022-2024)
As an Associate Advisor, they supervise PhD candidates in topics ranging from Sn-Bi solder alloys to Al-Ni brazing materials, working with Prof. Kazuhiro Nogita and Dr. Stuart McDonald.
