Xin Cynthia Wu

Xin Cynthia Wu, MD is an Associate Professor of Radiology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine. She completed her medical training at the University of Pennsylvania, followed by a radiology residency at NYU School of Medicine and a neuroradiology fellowship at UCSF where she served as chief fellow.

Dr. Wu's research focuses on advanced MR techniques for head and neck tumor imaging, particularly in improving detection of rare cancer spread patterns and characterizing postoperative findings that may mimic disease. Her additional research interests include MRI imaging of brain tumors and tumor mimics, as well as advanced MR imaging of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). Her clinical practice encompasses general neuroradiologic procedures, dedicated ENT imaging, complex head and neck studies, and multidisciplinary oncology clinics.

Dr. Wu has published multiple recent articles in prominent radiology journals, with a focus on head and neck imaging, paragangliomas, Parry-Romberg syndrome, hypoglossal nerve pathology, and post-treatment imaging in head and neck cancers. Her publications show a consistent focus on diagnostic imaging techniques and their clinical applications in complex head and neck conditions.

Her notable awards include multiple ASNR and ASHNR honors, with recent recognition in 2024 for Head and Neck Outstanding Project Award and the Anne Osborn International Outreach Visiting Professorship to Tanzania. She has also received educational exhibit awards from ASHNR in 2023 and 2020, and previously earned the RSNA Roentgen Resident/Fellow Research Award in 2013.

Dr. Wu maintains active research collaborations with colleagues including Glastonbury, Christine; Fisicaro, Ryan; and Tsui, Brian at UCSF. Her work demonstrates significant contributions to the field of neuroradiology, particularly in head and neck imaging applications.
