Xijia Gu

Dr. Xijia Gu is a Professor in the Department of Electrical, Computer, and Biomedical Engineering at Ryerson University. His research focuses on high-power fiber lasers, fiber-optic devices, and sensors. He holds a BSc from Nankai University, MSc from the University of Toronto, and PhD from the University of Waterloo.

Key research interests include fiber-optic sensors for mechanical strain, ultrafast fiber laser development, and optoelectronic device innovation. His work spans applications in fatigue testing, structural health monitoring, and high-power laser systems. Dr. Gu is affiliated with the Fiber Optic Communication and Sensing Laboratory and is a member of The Optical Society and Professional Engineers Ontario.

Notable contributions include patented optical sensor designs and pioneering studies on dissipative soliton lasers. He teaches advanced courses such as Optoelectronic Devices (EE 8122) and Photonics (ELE 844).
