Xiaoxuan Liu

Dr. Xiaoxuan (Xiao) Liu is an Honorary Associate Professor in AI and Digital Health at the University of Birmingham, Principal Scientist and Health Research Lead at Microsoft AI, and Deputy Editor at NEJM AI. She is a 125th Anniversary Fellow (2024) recognized for contributions to AI policy and standards. Her work focuses on responsible AI innovation, including safety, equity, and translational research.

Education:

• MBChB (Medicine), University of Birmingham (2010–2015)
• PhD in Applied Health Sciences (2017–2021), focusing on optical coherence tomography for uveitis quantification

Research Interests: Dr. Liu leads global initiatives such as STANDING Together to combat algorithmic bias and improve health equity. She co-developed reporting standards like CONSORT-AI and SPIRIT-AI, guiding clinical trials involving AI. Her work extends to regulatory collaboration with MHRA, NHS, and WHO, emphasizing safe AI integration in healthcare.
