Xiaomei Ma is a Professor of Epidemiology at the Yale School of Public Health and Co-Leader of the Cancer Prevention and Control Research Program at the Yale Comprehensive Cancer Center. Her research focuses on cancer etiology and health outcomes, particularly pediatric cancers and hematologic malignancies such as leukemia, lymphoma, and myelodysplastic syndromes. She investigates the interplay of immunological factors, chemical exposures, and genetic characteristics in cancer risk, alongside evaluating cancer screening and treatment cost implications in aging populations.
- PhD in Epidemiology from University of California at Berkeley (2001)
- Affiliated with Yale School of Public Health and Yale Cancer Center
Recent research trends include environmental health impacts on childhood cancers (e.g., air pollution, PFAS, artificial light at night) and disparities in cancer care during the COVID-19 pandemic. Collaborations span biostatistics, hematology, and environmental health sciences. Her work employs large-scale databases like SEER-Medicare and national claims data, integrating Bayesian modeling and Mendelian randomization techniques.
