Dr. Xiao-Shan Yap is an Assistant Professor at the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development within the Faculty of Geosciences at Utrecht University. Her work spans innovation and transitions, global governance, and development economics, with a focus on Earth-Space sustainability.
- Principal Investigator for the ERC-funded PLANETSTEWARDS program (2024-2029)
- Co-Director of the Earth-Space Governance Working Group at the Earth System Governance Project
- Chair of the 2024 Earth-Space Symposium
- Senior Policy Advisor to the EPFL Space Center
- Member of the Sustainability Transitions Research Network (STRN) Steering Group
Her research pioneers the concept of Earth-Space sustainability, addressing anthropogenic activities in both domains. She founded the first Earth-Space Sustainability initiative in 2020 and co-chairs conferences at the International Association for the Study of the Commons (IASC) and the EU COST Action 'Futures-oriented Governance of Outer Space' (FOGOS).
