Xiao-Ru Wang

Xiao-Ru Wang is a Professor at the Department of Ecology, Environment and Geoscience at Umeå University, Sweden. With a research focus on the evolutionary history of conifer trees in Eurasia, Wang employs ecological and population genetic approaches to investigate how climate and geography shape genetic diversity, and develops predictive models for genetic mismatch under climate change.

Wang’s work spans evolutionary biology, population genetics, and climate change ecology, with recent studies on hybrid speciation in pines, allele-specific expression in hybrid poplars, and UV radiation responses in conifers. Current research projects include genetic variation in Scots pine (2024–2025), hybrid adaptation (2018–2022), and climate-induced ecosystem shifts (2017–2022).
