Ian Wang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Science, Policy, and Management at the University of California, Berkeley. He holds affiliations with the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology and leads the Wang Group. His research focuses on landscape genomics, ecological and conservation genomics, and adaptive radiation, with applications in biodiversity conservation and environmental change studies.
Education: Ph.D. in Population Biology from UC Davis (2010), B.A. in Biology from Cornell University (2004). Awards include the NSF Career Award (2019), Hellman Fellowship (2016), and the UC Berkeley Excellence in Postdoctoral Mentoring Award (2023).
Research emphasizes genomic mechanisms of biodiversity, including studies on hybridization, adaptive radiation in Anolis lizards, and spatial genomic tools. Recent work explores climate change impacts using landscape genomics and incorporates remote sensing and morphological data.
Teaching includes courses like ESPM 137 (Landscape Ecology), ESPM 154 (Landscape Genetics), and graduate seminars on adaptive radiation. Active in conservation initiatives, including the California Conservation Genomics Project.
