Jonathan Losos is the William H. Danforth Distinguished University Professor of Biology at Washington University in St. Louis and Director of the Living Earth Collaborative (LEC). He leads the LEC, a partnership with the Missouri Botanical Garden and the Saint Louis Zoo, focused on advancing biodiversity research and conservation. His lab studies the behavioral and evolutionary ecology of lizards, particularly Caribbean Anolis species and urban-adapted species. Losos holds a PhD from UC Berkeley and previously served at Harvard University. His research integrates behavioral, ecological, and phylogenetic approaches to understand evolutionary diversification and adaptation.
Education: PhD in Biology, University of California, Berkeley.
Research Focus: Evolutionary mechanisms of biodiversity, including island biogeography, adaptive radiation, and species adaptation to urban environments. His work emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration to address global biodiversity challenges, such as climate change and human-wildlife interactions.
Articles Trends: Losos’s publications span evolutionary theory, ecological adaptation, and conservation biology. Recent work explores how species evolve in response to human-driven environmental changes, such as urbanization and climate shifts.
Awards: William H. Danforth Distinguished University Professorship.
Labs/Teams: Losos Lab (Biology Department) and the Living Earth Collaborative, fostering collaborations across institutions to tackle biodiversity crises.
