Xiao-Feng Sun serves as Professor at Linköping University, holding dual appointments in the Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences (BKV) and Department of Surgery, Orthopaedics and Oncology (KOO). His research is centered within the Wallenberg Centre for Molecular Medicine (WCMM), a Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation initiative advancing molecular medicine through university-healthcare collaboration.
His research program investigates molecular drivers of colorectal cancer progression, with emphasis on:
- MicroRNA-mediated regulation (miR-122, miR-134) of oncogenes like AEG-1
- Developmental pathway hijacking (Wnt/β-catenin, TBX3) in metastasis
- Therapeutic targeting of KRAS/PIK3CA signaling networks
- Translational validation from murine models to clinical data analysis
Recent publications (2024-2025) reveal a cohesive trajectory toward clinical translation, particularly in microRNA-based therapeutics and metastasis intervention. His work bridges basic molecular mechanisms with diagnostic innovation, as evidenced by contributions to emerging colorectal cancer detection methodologies.
Professor Sun actively contributes to LiU's cancer research ecosystem, which has secured substantial Swedish Cancer Foundation funding (SEK 24-34 million 2021-2025) for molecular mechanism studies and survival-improvement initiatives. His laboratory leverages WCMM's infrastructure for high-throughput molecular analysis and preclinical validation.
