Dr. Xianyu Wang is a Senior Research Fellow at the Queensland Alliance for Environmental Health Sciences (QAEHS) and the Minderoo Centre for Plastics and Human Health, both within the University of Queensland. With over a decade of expertise, he specializes in monitoring and analyzing environmental organic pollutants and human biomonitoring for contaminants of emerging concern (CECs).
His research addresses critical areas such as
- Atmospheric pollutant trends (PAHs, PFAS, flame retardants)
- Firefighter exposure to combustion products
- Chemical migration from plastics and packaging
- Development of low-contamination laboratory protocols
- Neurotoxicological impacts of environmental chemicals
Dr. Wang’s 15 most recent studies focus on organophosphate esters, microplastics, PFAS, and glyphosate in Australian populations, with particular emphasis on infants, firefighters, and indoor environments. His work spans Environmental Science, Toxicology, and Public Health disciplines.
Scientific awards include
- ARC Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (2023-2026)
- NHMRC Targeted Research Grant (2024-2026)
- ARC Linkage Projects funding
He supervises PhD students on topics like plastic chemical migration, PFAS exposure, and pollutant neurotoxicity, collaborating with experts such as Professor Jochen Mueller and Associate Professor Sarit Kaserzon.
