Xiangyi Liao

Dr. Xiangyi Liao serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational & Counselling Psychology, and Special Education at the University of British Columbia's Faculty of Education, where she is affiliated with the Measurement, Evaluation, and Research Methodology (MERM) program supervising Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy candidates.

Her academic foundation includes a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology (Quantitative Methods) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Research expertise centers on advancing quantitative methodologies for educational and social science applications, with primary focus on latent variable modeling, item response theory (IRT), multilevel modeling, and causal machine learning. Current investigations emphasize measuring developmental growth trajectories and person-level heterogeneity to optimize tailored educational interventions and teaching practices.

As a graduate supervisor, Dr. Liao provides methodological guidance for thesis research within the MERM program, supporting students in statistical design and analysis through her specialized quantitative knowledge.
