Xiangqun Ju

Dr Xiangqun Ju serves as an NHMRC Grant-Funded Researcher (A) at the University of Adelaide, affiliated with the Adelaide Dental School within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. She is an integral member of the Australian Research Centre for Population Oral Health (ARCPOH) and works in the University of Adelaide's Indigenous Oral Health Unit, focusing on critical oral health issues affecting vulnerable populations.

As an experienced maxillofacial surgeon and epidemiologist, Dr Ju's research spans multiple domains of oral health:

• Population Oral Health, investigating periodontal disease and chronic disease associations among older populations, Indigenous oral health disparities, socio-economic inequalities, oral health literacy interventions, and HPV-related oropharyngeal cancer
• Oral Epidemiology, developing disease causation models and analytical methods for population health status assessment
• Dental Workforce & Services, examining practitioner workforce dynamics and service responsibility loading

Dr Ju leads several major research initiatives:

• Indigenous oral health projects addressing oral health literacy interventions for children's dental caries and HPV/oropharyngeal cancer studies among Indigenous Australians
• The South Australian Dental Longitudinal Study (SADLS I and II) tracking periodontitis in older adults
• The National Study of Adult Oral Health (NSAOH) examining periodontal-chronic disease connections
• Dental services projects including the Relative Value Unit Study

Eligible to supervise Masters and PhD students, Dr Ju bridges clinical practice with population health research, with particular emphasis on health equity for Indigenous communities and aging populations. Her work directly informs public health policy and clinical practice guidelines for dental service delivery across diverse demographic groups.
