Xiang-dong Hou is Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of South Florida. His research spans algebra, number theory, coding theory, cryptography, and combinatorics, with particular expertise in finite fields and permutation polynomials.
Research develops novel approaches to polynomial factorization over finite fields and equivalence classification of rational functions. Applications include cryptographic Boolean function design and efficient coding theory implementations.
Publications demonstrate innovative connections between abstract algebra and information security, particularly in developing new permutation polynomial families for cryptographic applications. Recent work advances theoretical frameworks for normal polynomial identification.
