Xiancan Wu is a researcher at the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Geodynamics and Geohazards within the School of Earth Science and Engineering at Sun Yat-sen University in Zhuhai, China, with additional affiliation at the School of the Environment at The University of Queensland, Australia. His research focuses on tectonic processes along the northeastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau.
His primary research interests include geological uplift processes, sedimentology, stratigraphy, and tectonic deformation in the Qilian Shan region. Wu employs high-resolution magnetostratigraphic data, deep seismic imaging, and field observations to reconstruct the tectonic history of mountain building processes. His work particularly examines how sedimentary records can reveal the timing and mechanisms of crustal deformation.
Wu's recent publication analyzes syn-tectonic deposits to uncover the uplift history of the Qilian Shan since the Middle Miocene, identifying three distinct phases of accelerated uplift.
